John Sisk and Son are delighted to be nominated for the Innovation of the Year award at the National Building and Construction Awards for our Canada Gardens project at Wembley Park. Our hard working team in collaboration with Quintain are constantly pushing for innovation throughout the project and because of this have truly harnessed the benefits of field digital tools. Our entry highlights how Sisk are always searching and trailing new procedures and ways of working in order to improve the efficiency in how we work, improving productivity on site and reducing our impact on the environment.
At John Sisk & Son, we are an International Construction Company. Founded in Ireland and now working across Ireland, the UK and mainland Europe. We place a strong emphasis on performance, quality, teamwork and a “hands-on” management approach to ensure client satisfaction. It is a family run company, founded in 1859 with the family still directly involved in the Business today. This has helped us maintain the attitude for Building Excellence for over 150 years by building trust, certainty and value for our clients.
We have been closely involved with the Wembley development for over 14 years, building a close relationship with the developer and the wider Wembley Park team. To date we have completed 7 Projects which include nearly 1000 residential apartments, 350 Hilton hotel rooms, 660 student accommodation units, a shopping outlet and a 1000 space multi-storey car park, along with refurbishment works of the Wembley arena itself. Currently we have two live projects, totalling a build cost of £425m.
This innovative solution of ‘Digital Smart Containers’ has received numerous awards and endorsements from the construction industry in the UK and internationally. This is shown with James Burt, Project Manager at Quintain saying ‘Digital Smart Containers are an excellent system for delivery process and we look to work with our Construction partners to enhance the use of these. To reduce risk, improve delivery and learn how to build better.’
From the implementation of these new processes and workflows we recorded a 35% time saving of the QA process versus traditional paper methods, 21.1% increase of production efficiency and reduction of paper printed in our office by 44%. Our distinctive factor was going beyond the standard services currently offered by vendors and our innovative Digital Smart Containers is a demonstration of this, where we mapped several site activities that are usually being performed in silos into one environment to enhance the efficiency, time savings and better decision making throughout the site.
